Heavy Equipment Operator

            The Johnson County Board of Commissioners has an immediate opening for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator with the Johnson County Road Department.  This position is responsible for operating heavy machinery and assisting with construction and the daily maintenance and upkeep of all roads and bridges throughout the county.  This position reports to the County Road Superintendent.

Duties and Responsibilities

·       Performs road construction/maintenance and repair projects as assigned

·       Performs grading and drainage system replacement and improvement activities

·       Performs grading of unpaved roads, sloping shoulders, and cleaning ditches

·       Assists in performing maintenance functions of equipment as necessary

·       Loads and unloads equipment from vehicles and trailers

·       Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED; previous experience in road construction/maintenance desirable but not required; demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate various types of heavy equipment required; knowledge of occupational and safety precautions associated with operating heavy equipment; must possess good interpersonal and communication skills; or any combination of education, training, or experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.  Must possess or be willing to obtain upon employment Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.  Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug screen.
