Road Dept. Road Superintendent

Responsibilities

• Schedules work crews and assign daily duties

• Assists the Project Consultant in the development of road maintenance projects

• Respond to complaints from the general public

• Inspect the departments work in progress

• Conducts onsite inspections of work in progress

• Installs culverts, digs and clears ditches, and clears rights of way

• Oversees the maintenance of County roads

• Assists with the right of way acquisitions

• Supervises road maintenance crews and assists in the performance of duties necessary to maintain and repair County roads and ditches

• Processes paperwork: verifies easements, requests permissions to enter private property; etc

• Trains personnel in safety and operating procedures

Qualifications

• Our ideal candidate should have the ability to pay attention to details, excellent communication, and a focus on increasing efficiency and accountability

• It is equally important that they be willing and able to learn new skills and knowledge within the Road Department

• Must have a Class A CDL Ga

• License

• Knowledge of public administration

• Thorough knowledge of proper road construction and maintenance procedures

• Knowledge of proper ditching and pipe laying procedures

• Knowledge of local building codes and ordinances and relevant state and federal laws; knowledge of department and safety policies and procedures

• Skills in reading plats and maps

• Skills in operating tools and equipment used in ditch and pipe laying work, such as a tractor, motor grader, front end loader, and water truck

• 5-7 years of experience in road maintenance and repair, heavy equipment operation and maintenance

• Preferable supervisory experience

• Strong analytical skills

• Diligence, prioritization skill, and time management
