Nora Collins, ITA Program
Nora Collins enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in September 2023. As the spouse of a disabled veteran, Nora had taken on the unexpected role as the sole provider for their family. She was underemployed and needed financial assistance to continue her training, which would hopefully lead to a better job and enable her to become self-sufficient. She had recently been accepted into the Medical Laboratory Technician program at Southeastern Technical College. WIOA assisted by covering the costs of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and uniforms while also providing her with transportation stipends. Nora graduated with a 3.49 GPA, earning her associate’s degree, and then passed the testing to receive her state licensing credentials. She has accepted a full-time position as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Evans Memorial Hospital.
Nora had this to say, “WIOA is a great program that helped me financially throughout my college journey until I graduated. Without WIOA, I would not have been able to afford the cost of school or the gas to go back and forth to clinicals. I earned my associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Tech. I am so thankful to WIOA for helping me fulfill my dreams and become successful.”
