WHEELER COUNTY

Jacob Bridges, Youth Program

Jacob Bridges was a 16-year-old 11th grader from Wheeler County when he enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program in February 2023.  He needed assistance gaining work experience and completing high school so he could continue to post-secondary education.  Jacob’s goal was to find employment in the mechanic field.  Through the Youth Work Experience (WEX) program, which works with local employers to place youth in temporary employment, Jacob was able to work at Selph’s Body Shop. This gave him the opportunity to see firsthand what a career as a Mechanic would be like. Jacob received his high school diploma and was accepted at Middle Georgia State University in the Aviation Mechanics Program.

Jacob had this to say about his time in the WIOA program.  “I really enjoyed the work experience because it allowed me to work a job that I was interested in.  I was able to learn the ropes of something new.”  We are so proud of Jacob and all of his accomplishments.
