HEART OF GEORGIA WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD
Strengthening our workforce one resident at a time!
Anna Rentz, ITA Program
Anna enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Individual Training Account Program on January 17, 2020. She attended South Georgia State College for the Associates of Nursing program. When Anna applied for WIOA, she worked at the Appling County Board of Commissioners to cover the cost of school. Anna maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout her program. Anna successfully completed her program of study and received her license on June 3, 2021. Anna is now working as a Registered Nurse at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Anna was always a pleasure to work with, and we are so proud of her accomplishments!
See what Anna had to say about the WIOA Program: “I appreciated this program tremendously! It allowed me to get a degree and not worry about some of the expenses of school. It helped me pay for textbooks and even paid for my State Boards to become an RN. This program is a great asset for college students to reach their goals.”

Deanna Clark, ITA Program
Deanna Clark of Bleckley County attended Wiregrass Technical College pursuing a degree in the Practical Nursing Program. As a single mother of two, being a full-time student, and working part-time on the weekends, Deanna needed additional financial assistance to cover her school cost. Deanna applied for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Individual Training Account (ITA) Program in December of 2018. While in the WIOA ITA Program, Deanna completed the nursing program and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is working full-time as an LPN at a local healthcare facility.
Deanna shares her story: “WIOA helped me with covering the cost of uniforms and required items that I needed for the LPN program. It also gave me a daily stipend to help with daycare expenses and gas to drive back and forth to my classes and clinicals. Job Training Unlimited also selected to sponsor my family for Christmas. I was in tears because I had no idea how I would get anything for my children. I can never say thank you enough to the wonderful people who worked so hard to help us out during the holidays. Ms. Sherry, my case manager, delivered everything to us and was always so sweet and helpful. If it were not for the help of WIOA, it would have been a struggle to complete the LPN program.”

Briana Reyes, ITA Program
Briana Reyes was enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in February 2021. She was determined eligible as a Dislocated Worker under the National Dislocated Worker COVID-19 Grant. She was attending Middle Georgia State University pursuing a degree in Nursing. Briana needed financial assistance with the costs of the program. WIOA helped cover the expense of tuition, books, supplies, testing fees, and transportation. Briana attended school full time and graduated in December 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
When asked about WIOA Briana replied, “I am so grateful for being accepted in the WIOA program. I received help with the cost of tuition, school supplies, and textbooks. The transportation money I received allowed me to pay for gas commuting back and forth to class and clinicals each week. They also helped me pay for my cap and gown for graduation and provided reimbursement for the cost of taking the NCLEX. Without the help of WIOA I would have had to take out several student loans. I hope WIOA continues and can help other students like me achieve their goal of earning a degree without worrying about financial assistance.”
