She was a single mom of three, working part-time and attending Ogeechee Technical College’s LPN program. Kimberly needed financial assistance to complete her program of study and become an LPN. WIOA provided Kimberly with transportation stipends, assistance paying for books, and paid for testing and fees associated with receiving her LPN license. With the support of WIOA, Kimberly recently graduated and received her LPN license. She has now accepted full-time employment as an LPN at Camellia Health and Rehab. We are so proud of Kimberly and all of her accomplishments. Kimberly had this to say about the WIOA program. “While attending Ogeechee Technical College for Nursing, I applied for WIOA to help me financially. Tamara enrolled in the WIOA In-School Youth Program in November 2019 as a Junior in high school. She needed assistance to be able to graduate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamara’s school transitioned to virtual learning during the final months of her junior year. Like many other students in this situation, Tamara was unable to complete her required credits to be promoted to the 12th grade for the following school year. When the new school year began, Tamara’s WIOA youth case manager and teachers worked with Tamara to develop a plan for her to complete her junior credits and get back on track to graduate. Tamara worked very hard and passed all her classes! She was promoted to the 12th grade and returned to in-person instruction for her senior year. Tamara completed her senior year and graduated high school in May 2022. We are very proud of Tamara for continuing to pursue her educational goals and working hard to overcome the obstacles she faced! Installs culverts, digs and clears ditches, and clears rights-of-way. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment; operates two-way radio. Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas, and other fluids. May load dump truck and haul rock, dirt, mulch, asphalt, and other materials to or from work sites. Fills and repairs road shoulders and participates in ditch and drainage construction. May perform additional duties, such as: flagging traffic, replacing road signs, installing culvert pipes, mowing rights-of-way, cleaning and maintaining roads, ditches and drains, and pouring, spreading, and leveling asphalt, concrete, and gravel. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of standard construction equipment. Knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation. Knowledge of department and safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of county geography, including roads and rights-of-way. Knowledge of road drainage in relation to ditching and sloping roads to prevent flooding and erosion of the road bed. Skill in defensive driving techniques. Skill in operating various heavy and light equipment. Skill in performing minor equipment repairs, adjustments, and maintenance. Skill in using various hand and power tools. Skill in performing road construction and maintenance duties. Skill in reading maps, plats, and project plans. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while operating light or heavy construction equipment for extended periods of time, with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
