  • BLECKLEY COUNTY, 20, Deanna Clark, ITA Program

Deanna Clark, ITA Program BLECKLEY COUNTY Deanna Clark, ITA Program Deanna Clark of Bleckley County attended Wiregrass Technical College pursuing a degree in the Practical Nursing Program. As a single mother of two, being a full-time student, and working part-time on the weekends, Deanna needed additional financial assistance to cover her school cost. Deanna applied for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Individual Training Account (ITA) Program in December of 2018. While in the WIOA ITA Program, Deanna completed the nursing program and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is working full-time as an LPN at a local healthcare facility. Deanna shares her story: “WIOA helped me with covering the cost of uniforms and required items that I needed for the LPN program. It also gave me a daily stipend to help with daycare expenses and gas to drive back and forth to my classes and clinicals. Job Training Unlimited also selected to sponsor my family for Christmas. I was in tears because I had no idea how I would get anything for my children. I can never say thank you enough to the wonderful people who worked so hard to help us out during the holidays. Ms. Sherry, my case manager, delivered everything to us and was always so sweet and helpful. If it were not for the help of WIOA, it would have been a struggle to complete the LPN program.” Previous Next < Back MARCH 2021

  • JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, 20, Tia Kornegay, ITA Program

Tia Kornegay, ITA Program JEFF DAVIS COUNTY Tia Kornegay, ITA Program Tia Kornegay, of Jeff Davis County, successfully completed the WIOA Youth Program in August of 2017 and continued to work and attend South Georgia State College to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. Tia began working as a CNA while still attending South Georgia State College, working towards her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. In August of 2018, after being accepted into the Registered Nursing Program, Tia knew that she would need additional financial assistance to cover her school costs and applied for and was enrolled into the WIOA ITA Program. While in the WIOA ITA Program, Tia continued working part-time when possible and focusing on her studies. Being determined to reach her goals, Tia overcame many struggles, including the abrupt global changes and challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. She graduated with an Associates of Nursing Degree and began her career as a Registered Nurse. Tia was always a pleasure to work with, and it was a joy to watch her grow throughout her college journey. She shares her story below. “I started my program of study in Nursing in the Fall of 2018, which is also the time I signed up with WIOA. The program took me two years to complete, and with the help of WIOA, I was able to afford to travel back and forth to class throughout the week, along with the expenses such as books, uniforms, etc. Without the help of this program, I probably would have had to work more hours to cover my school expenses, which would have ultimately taken away the time I could have spent studying. Therefore, I am thankful for the program and how it has helped me throughout the years of my college journey.” Congratulations Tia, we are so very proud of you and all of your accomplishments!
