Deanna shares her story: “WIOA helped me with covering the cost of uniforms and required items that I needed for the LPN program. It also gave me a daily stipend to help with daycare expenses and gas to drive back and forth to my classes and clinicals. Job Training Unlimited also selected to sponsor my family for Christmas. I was in tears because I had no idea how I would get anything for my children. I can never say thank you enough to the wonderful people who worked so hard to help us out during the holidays. Ms. Sherry, my case manager, delivered everything to us and was always so sweet and helpful. If it were not for the help of WIOA, it would have been a struggle to complete the LPN program.”

Tia Kornegay, ITA Program
Tia Kornegay, of Jeff Davis County, successfully completed the WIOA Youth Program in August of 2017 and continued to work and attend South Georgia State College to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. Tia began working as a CNA while still attending South Georgia State College, working towards her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. In August of 2018, after being accepted into the Registered Nursing Program, Tia knew that she would need additional financial assistance to cover her school costs and applied for and was enrolled into the WIOA ITA Program. While in the WIOA ITA Program, Tia continued working part-time when possible and focusing on her studies. Being determined to reach her goals, Tia overcame many struggles, including the abrupt global changes and challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. She graduated with an Associates of Nursing Degree and began her career as a Registered Nurse. Tia was always a pleasure to work with, and it was a joy to watch her grow throughout her college journey. She shares her story below.
“I started my program of study in Nursing in the Fall of 2018, which is also the time I signed up with WIOA. The program took me two years to complete, and with the help of WIOA, I was able to afford to travel back and forth to class throughout the week, along with the expenses such as books, uniforms, etc. Without the help of this program, I probably would have had to work more hours to cover my school expenses, which would have ultimately taken away the time I could have spent studying. Therefore, I am thankful for the program and how it has helped me throughout the years of my college journey.”
Congratulations Tia, we are so very proud of you and all of your accomplishments!

Anna Wilcher, ITA Program
Anna Reigh Wilcher enrolled in the WIOA Program on July 19, 2018. She was in the Registered Nurse Program at Middle Georgia State University when she began researching programs to assist her financially with school costs. After receiving the information and application, Anna applied for WIOA. During her time on the WIOA program, she worked part-time while attending school full time. Anna maintained a good GPA during her time in the program. Working with Anna was always a pleasure. Congratulations, Anna!
Anna shares her story: "In 2017, I made the decision to apply to the nursing program at Middle Georgia State University. After receiving my acceptance letter, I began to realize just how costly nursing school could be. Tuition, books, supplies, uniforms, required online programs, and travel to get to my classes (that were nearly two hours away) were no doubt going to cost me quite a bit of money. I was worried that I would have to take out student loans to make it through the program.
During my nursing orientation, a guest speaker from the WIOA Program gave us information on what the program was and how they could help make college more affordable. I decided to attempt to sign up but was not sure I would even be a candidate to receive the funds. After a short wait, I found out that I was approved to receive tuition assistance from WIOA. This meant that my tuition and book costs for two years of nursing school would be PAID! I also received a bi-weekly stipend to aid in the cost of travel to classes and clinicals. On top of this, I was given a voucher each semester to use in the college bookstore to cover the cost of basic school supplies. When graduation time came around, WIOA reimbursed me for graduation fees and paid for me to take my state nursing boards (which is rather expensive). The WIOA Program was a great blessing for me."

She worked diligently and completed her program in May 2022. She has since passed her Licensing Exams and successfully gained employment with Towne Lake Dental Group in Pooler, GA as a Dental Hygienist.
Ruby had this to say about her experience through WIOA, “WIOA has taken so much stress off my shoulders by helping me financially with extra expenses such as transportation, clinic supplies, and testing fees. I don’t know if I would have been able to complete my degree without the assistance I received.”

Samantha Harrelson, ITA Program
Samantha Harrelson enrolled in the ITA program on March 11, 2019. She attended Middle GA State University and completed the Regular/Special Education Program for Early Childhood. Samantha was able to quit working part-time and focus on her studies while in the ITA program. Samantha completed the program as a Dean's List Scholar.
See what Samantha had to say about the WIOA program: “I earned a degree in Regular/Special Education for Early Childhood while attending Middle Georgia State University. I have had the privilege to be on the WIOA program for the past year and a half. Before I was on the program, I worked a part-time job while also attending college full time. I would go to college Monday through Friday and work every Saturday and Sunday. So I either had to stay up later in the week to finish up homework or get up earlier than my shift to finish all my schoolwork. I was able to quit my job so I could continue my college education because of this program. The WIOA program helped me afford my tuition without taking out massive loans and paying for the books that I needed for my classes. If I were unable to be on this program, I would have had to continue working my full-time job and not focus on my schoolwork. I would not have graduated with Magna Cum Laude or Dean’s List Scholar because I would have had to focus on making sure I had enough money to continue to go to school. I would most likely have dropped out of school so I could save enough money to be able to go back to college eventually. I believe that I would not have started back to college if I had to quit to save money.”
