It may also include the operation of a variety of moderately heavy-duty construction equipment. MAJOR DUTIES: Independently operates a back hoe on a specified route. Records roads graded and recommends maintenance needed on roads, which includes needed fill material, outfall ditch maintenance, pipe replacements and sign replacements. Operates one or more of the following types of equipment to facilitate department work processes safely and efficiently: back hoe, dump truck, low boy, front-end loader, trenching machine, and other related equipment. Operates a variety of handheld tools and equipment such as a chain saw, shovel, and rake. Sets and shoots grades and alignments as necessary. Installs culverts, digs and clears ditches, and clears rights-of-way. Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment; operates two-way radio. Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing, and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas, and other fluids. May load dump truck and haul rock, dirt, mulch, asphalt, and other materials to or from work sites. Fills and repairs road shoulders and participates in ditch and drainage construction. May perform additional duties, such as: flagging traffic, replacing road signs, installing culvert pipes, mowing rights-of-way, cleaning and maintaining roads, ditches and drains, and pouring, spreading, and leveling asphalt, concrete, and gravel. Performs other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of the operations and maintenance of standard construction equipment. Knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation. Knowledge of department and safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of county geography, including roads and rights-of-way. Knowledge of road drainage in relation to ditching and sloping roads to prevent flooding and erosion of the road bed. Skill in defensive driving techniques. Skill in operating various heavy and light equipment. Skill in performing minor equipment repairs, adjustments, and maintenance. Skill in using various hand and power tools. Skill in performing road construction and maintenance duties. Skill in reading maps, plats, and project plans. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while operating light or heavy construction equipment for extended periods of time, with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color. Provides counseling, referral, and crisis intervention services for participants as needed; assists seniors in matters involving Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, social security, legal, and insurance supplements. Ensures compliance with all applicable health and safety codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Prepares various reports for submission to the Heart of Georgia Altamaha AAA; ensures timely submission of all required reports; completes a variety of forms and reports to document food temperatures, daily activities, nutrition education, outreach, congregate meal recipients, home delivered meal recipients, employee certification and training records. Promotes the County's senior program by speaking to civic groups, community leaders, faith-based organizations, volunteers, and other individuals/groups as appropriate; ensures efforts are made to refer individuals to the senior center's programs and services with emphasis on identifying isolated and frail elders. Initiates requests for maintenance or repairs to the senior center facility and/or equipment.     Daysia Heggs, Youth Program EMANUEL COUNTY Daysia Heggs, Youth Program Daysia Heggs is an out-of-school youth from Emanuel County. She enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program because she needed assistance getting her GED, enrolling in college, and wanted to gain work experience. Daysia worked very hard, earned her GED, and registered in the Medical Assisting Program at Southeastern Technical College (STC). She participated in the Youth Work Experience (WEX) Program and was placed at STC to earn money to help with the fees of attending college. In addition, she received transportation stipends while attending school and financial assistance to cover the costs of supplies and fees. Daysia earned her CNA License and is well on her way to completing her program in Medical Assisting. Daysia did a great job working at STC on the WEX program and was offered a full-time position working with them while she completes her college career. We are so proud of Daysia’s educational and career accomplishments. She described her experience with the WIOA Youth Program by saying, “I am so thankful for the help I have received from WIOA.
