She was attending the Radiologic Tech program at Southeastern Technical College. Alyson was unemployed and needed financial assistance to continue her education. WIOA assisted her by providing payment for tuition, books, supplies, testing fees, uniforms, and transportation stipends. Alyson completed her program as an Honor Graduate with a 3.89 GPA. She received her associate’s degree and accepted employment at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin as a Radiology Technician. We are very proud of Alyson for the dedication and effort she invested in receiving her degree. Alyson says, “WIOA was very helpful in paying for everything I needed for school. Ryan Chang, ITA Program DODGE COUNTY Ryan Chang, ITA Program Ryan Chang joined the WIOA ITA Program in April 2024. He was in the Aviation Maintenance Airframe and Powerplant Technician program at Middle Georgia State University. He was unemployed and needed assistance covering some of the out-of-pocket fees associated with his program of study. WIOA provided Ryan with transportation stipends for each day of attendance and covered the cost of graduation fees and the extensive testing required. Ryan worked hard and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his entire college career, earning him a spot on the President’s List each semester. He also received a Certificate of Outstanding Academic Excellence and was named the AMT student of the year. Ryan recently graduated and received his Certificate from the Aviation Maintenance Tech program. He then successfully passed all three written exams and all three oral and practical exams required by the FAA to receive his certifications. Kenzie Evans, ITA Program APPLING COUNTY Kenzie Evans, ITA Program Kenzie Evans enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in June 2023. She was attending Brewton Parker College in hopes of receiving her bachelor’s in nursing. Kenzie was juggling school full-time, raising three small children, and was only able to work part-time. She needed financial assistance with tuition in order to continue her college education. WIOA was able to pay for her tuition, books, supplies, uniforms, testing, and licensing fees. She also received daily transportation stipends to help cover the cost of gas for commuting back and forth to school and clinical sites. By removing this financial burden, Kenzie was able to dedicate herself to her studies and maintain a 3.5–3.7 GPA, making the Dean’s List every semester. Kenzie recently graduated Cum Laude and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then went on to pass the NCLEX and received her Registered Professional Nursing License from the State of Georgia. She has accepted full-time employment as an RN at Affinity Hospice. Nora Collins, ITA Program TATTNALL COUNTY Nora Collins, ITA Program Nora Collins enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in September 2023. As the spouse of a disabled veteran, Nora had taken on the unexpected role as the sole provider for their family. She was underemployed and needed financial assistance to continue her training, which would hopefully lead to a better job and enable her to become self-sufficient. She had recently been accepted into the Medical Laboratory Technician program at Southeastern Technical College. WIOA assisted by covering the costs of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and uniforms while also providing her with transportation stipends. Nora graduated with a 3.49 GPA, earning her associate’s degree, and then passed the testing to receive her state licensing credentials. She has accepted a full-time position as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Evans Memorial Hospital. Nora had this to say, “WIOA is a great program that helped me financially throughout my college journey until I graduated. Without WIOA, I would not have been able to afford the cost of school or the gas to go back and forth to clinicals. I earned my associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Tech. Mariah Faison, Youth Program LAURENS COUNTY Mariah Faison, Youth Program Mariah Faison is from Laurens County and enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program in March 2024. At the time, she was a junior at East Laurens High School and needed assistance to complete her high school education, as well as gain work experience. During her junior and senior years, she was dual enrolled at Georgia Military College, and WIOA provided her with stipends each day of attendance. She participated in Youth Work Experience and Occupational Skills Training. Mariah recently received her high school diploma and has been accepted to Georgia Southern University. She has worked very hard, and we are so proud of her accomplishments. Mariah had this to say, “When I joined WIOA, I was seeking a way to obtain job experience and training, and this program ended up being exactly what I needed. I am so thankful for the opportunities provided by this program. I was able to secure a job that allowed me to improve my resume, which I will need when applying for future job opportunities. Chloe Ivey, Youth Program JOHNSON COUNTY Chloe Ivey, Youth Program Chloe Ivey is an 18-year-old In-School Youth from Wrightsville, Georgia. She was enrolled in WIOA in October of 2024. Chloe was in the 12th grade and needed assistance to find employment and complete high school. During her time in the WIOA program, she attended Occupational Skills Training and participated in the Youth Work Experience (WEX) Program. Through the Youth WEX program, which works with local employers to place youth in temporary employment, Chloe worked in the office at Johnson County High School. She was able to earn money and gain the experience she needed. During her senior year, she decided to dual enroll at East Georgia State College to get a jump start on her post-secondary education. WIOA provided Chloe with stipend payments during this time and also assisted with her high school graduation fees. Chloe recently graduated from high school and was accepted at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Her goal is to earn a degree in Radiology. Chloe had this to say about the WIOA Youth Program, “This program has helped me so much financially and has encouraged me to keep pushing. Sierra Connell, Youth Program WHEELER COUNTY Sierra Connell, Youth Program Sierra Connell was enrolled in the WIOA In-School Youth program in September 2024. She wanted to gain work experience and needed assistance to complete school. Sierra knew that after graduation, she wanted to attend college and get an education degree. She participated in the WIOA Youth Work Experience program and was placed at Wheeler County High School as a teacher’s assistant. Sierra also completed Occupational Skills Training. She recently earned her high school diploma and signed with ABAC to pursue a degree in Agricultural Education. We are so proud of Sierra for her accomplishments and know she is going to have such a bright future. Sierra shared this about her experience with WIOA. “I aim to be an Agriculture Teacher in the future, and being in this program allowed me to work alongside and assist teachers at my high school. This allowed me to have a clearer view of my future career path and helped me make a more informed decision when deciding on my major in college. Charles Ashley, Youth Program TELFAIR COUNTY Charles Ashley, Youth Program Charles Ashley enrolled in the WIOA Program in June 2021. He wanted to attend the University of Georgia (UGA) to earn a degree in Pharmacy, and he needed financial assistance. During his time in the WIOA Out-of-School Youth Program, Charles completed Occupational Skills Training and participated in the Work Experience program. He was placed at Eastman Drugs for work experience and was able to see what it would be like working in his field of study. WIOA helped cover the cost of supplies, fees, and provided him with transportation stipends to help with the financial burden of college. He recently graduated from UGA with his Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and has accepted a full-time position as a Pharmacist at Fairview Park Hospital. We are so proud of Charles for his hard work and devotion to his education. Charles had this to say about his time in the WIOA program. “Today I am a licensed pharmacist, and I can say that without WIOA, I am not sure if I would have been able to achieve this lifelong goal. The position will remain open until filled. Major Duties for the position include Supervise the administration of the affairs of the county and see that all ordinances, resolutions, regulations, and policies of the Board are faithfully executed and enforced. Exercise administrative control over all departments of the county government under under the jurisdiction of the Board. Recommend to the Board of Commissioners the hiring, termination, or suspension of all department heads in accordance with the ordinances, polices, and rules adopted by the Board and all officers and employees of the county under the jurisdiction of the Board; provided, however, the county attorney and the outside auditor shall be appointed and removed solely by the auction of the Board. Act as chief budget officer and submit, subject to requirement established by the Board, an annual budget for consideration and adoption by the Board of Commissioners. Keep the Board fully advised as to the financial condition and needs of the county, Supervise and direct the official conduct of all county officers and department heads appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Attend all meetings of the Board with the right to enter discussion, provided the administrator shall have no vote. Serve as the chief purchasing agent for the county and shall implement policies and procedures adopted by the Board for procurement of all supplies and materials. Supervises the performance of county contracts and negotiates contracts and agreements on behalf of the Board. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Maintains county records and prepares all required reports Represents the county in public and at community events and meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications include Knowledge and/or level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; Master's degree preferred. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits and departments of the county in order to direct and coordinate work within the various subunits and departments, usually interpreted to require three or five years of related experience. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia. Ability to use and understand all office equipment. Good communication skills; both oral and written. Possess good interpersonal skills. Payton Graham, Youth Program TREUTLEN COUNTY Payton Graham, Youth Program Payton Graham is a 16 year old from Treutlen County. He was a high school dropout when he enrolled in WIOA in 2019. Payton lives with his grandmother and brother. With the help of WIOA, he has actively attended Adult Education classes at Southeastern Technical College and has just received his GED! He has also completed Occupational Skills Training and participated in the Youth Work Experience Program. Payton plans to attend college and is interested in pursuing a career as a Social Worker. Payton said, "The WIOA program has really helped me with my learning experience. I would have never thought that I would have completed and received my GED. If it wasn't for the amazing support I received from the staff at Job Training Unlimited, I would not have made it this far. The program is awesome, and I am very grateful to be a part of it."
