TOOMBS COUNTY Samanta Dixon, ITA Program Samanta Dixon, a native of Toombs County, was attending Southeastern Technical College’s Licensed Practical Nursing Program when enrolled in the WIOA program. She was employed part-time with Memorial Health Meadows Hospital but was only PRN (as needed). With the lack of income, the financial burden of completing the LPN program was overwhelming. Samanta needed WIOA assistance to help with her tuition, supplies, and the daily transportation stipend to continue attending school. Since completing the Licensed Practical Nursing program in Spring 2022, she passed her state board exam and was offered a full-time position at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital as an LPN. Samanta has been a great participant, she has worked very hard and overcome obstacles that would have caused many people to give up, but she persisted and achieved her goals! Samanta shared her experience by saying, “Two months before enrolling in the program, I went through a very traumatic experience. I began the LPN program knowing the financial burden it would be. I’m very thankful for WIOA and the help I received with uniforms, weekly stipends, and required testing fees. LAURENS COUNTY Adriel Aaron, Youth Program Adriel Aaron, who is 19 years old from Laurens County, has been in WIOA for about two years. During that time, she has attended Occupational Skills Training, Adult Education Courses, and participated in Youth Work Experience. Coming from a single parent home, it was difficult for Adriel to get back and forth to school without having a job. With the help of WIOA, Adriel was able to attend classes regularly and received her GED. Adriel has now enrolled in classes at Oconee Fall Line Technical College and is pursuing her degree in Criminal Justice. She has now completed her 2nd semester and maintains good grades while also participating in the Work-Study Program. Adriel has come a long way, and we are so proud of the work she has put into being successful! This is what Adriel had to say about her time in the WIOA Youth Program, “Because of WIOA, I am able to provide for myself and get to school without having to worry about gas. - DODGE COUNTY, 22, Lindsay Hardeman, ITA Participant
DODGE COUNTY Lindsay Hardeman, ITA Participant Lindsay Hardeman was enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in February 2021. She was laid off from her position at Glamourous Peach Boutique and was determined eligible as a Dislocated Worker under the National Dislocated Worker COVID-19 Grant. She was attending Oconee Fall Line Technical College pursuing a degree in Radiology. She needed financial assistance with the costs of the program. WIOA helped cover the expense of tuition, books, supplies, testing fees, and transportation. Lindsay completed the program and received her Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology on May 2,2022 with a 3.27 GPA. She was offered a position with Dodge County Hospital in the Radiology Department and is loving her career path. Lindsay had this to say about the WIOA program, “Before receiving WIOA I worried constantly and wondered how I would financially be able to finish my degree. DODGE COUNTY John Moore Jr., OJT Program John Moore Jr., from Dodge County, was laid off from Husqvarna in 2019 due to a facility closure. John came to WIOA in need of financial assistance to attend college because he was interested in the Welding Program. With the help of WIOA, John was able to attend Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Despite the difficulties that arose due to the COVID pandemic, John maintained a good GPA and completed the Welding Program in May 2021. After earning his degree from OFTC, John was placed in employment with Dinex Emissions, Inc. through WIOA on-the-Job Training. John completed over 400 hours of training and is now employed full-time at Dinex Emissions, Inc. John was a pleasure to work with and had this to say about WIOA, "The WIOA Program has helped me tremendously. If it were not for the assistance, I would not have been able to complete this program." TREUTLEN COUNTY Tamara Burgess, Youth Program Tamara Burgess is a 19-year-old graduate from Treutlen County. Tamara enrolled in the WIOA In-School Youth Program in November 2019 as a Junior in high school. She needed assistance to be able to graduate. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamara’s school transitioned to virtual learning during the final months of her junior year. Like many other students in this situation, Tamara was unable to complete her required credits to be promoted to the 12th grade for the following school year. When the new school year began, Tamara’s WIOA youth case manager and teachers worked with Tamara to develop a plan for her to complete her junior credits and get back on track to graduate. Tamara worked very hard and passed all her classes! She was promoted to the 12th grade and returned to in-person instruction for her senior year. Tamara completed her senior year and graduated high school in May 2022. We are very proud of Tamara for continuing to pursue her educational goals and working hard to overcome the obstacles she faced! Tamara described her experience with WIOA by saying, “The youth program has helped me a lot this year, and I just want to say Thank You! I appreciate all the help!” Previous Next < Back JUNE 2022

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY Chesley Woods, ITA Program Chesley Woods was enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in October 2022. He was attending Southeastern Technical College’s Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) program. He had recently been laid off and needed financial assistance to help with the expense of continuing school. WIOA was able to help cover the cost of tuition, books, exam fees, and uniforms. He also received transportation stipends to help with the cost of traveling back and forth to school and clinical sites. Chesley worked very hard and completed the ASN program with a 3.20 GPA. We are so proud of him for his accomplishments and can’t wait to see him continue to reach his goals. Chesley had this to say about his experience in the WIOA program. “WIOA was first mentioned to me during my first semester of nursing school. I applied and was accepted and began to reap the benefits of this program. WIOA has been a huge blessing to me and many others in my nursing cohort. I was able to focus more intently on my studies rather than worrying how I would be able to cover the cost of attending. My friends all joke with me regarding how often I talk about WIOA and share with other new and incoming students about how much the program has helped me and how it can help them too. I can now say I have successfully graduated from STC with my Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. I am incredibly thankful for WIOA and all the wonderful women who worked with me. MONTGOMERY COUNTY Jailee Hanner, Youth Program Jailee Hanner enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program in February 2022 as an 11th grader at Coastal Plains Charter School. She needed assistance with graduating high school and gaining work experience. During her time in the program, she participated in Basic Skills Training and the Youth Work Experience Program. Her goal was to graduate high school and become a professional dancer. Vidalia Ballet was already an established worksite and was more than happy to have Jailee work there. Jailee received her high school diploma in December 2023 and continues to work and volunteer at the same dance studio. Jailee had this to say about her time in the WIOA program. “I am so thankful for the opportunity to be in the WIOA program. I am from a rural underserved area, and this grant allowed me to gain work experience and obtain skills that will assist me in future endeavors that I otherwise would not have been able to do.” We are so proud of Jailee and the accomplishments that she has achieved. TREUTLEN COUNTY Payton Graham, Youth Program Payton Graham is a 16 year old from Treutlen County. He was a high school dropout when he enrolled in WIOA in 2019. Payton lives with his grandmother and brother. With the help of WIOA, he has actively attended Adult Education classes at Southeastern Technical College and has just received his GED! He has also completed Occupational Skills Training and participated in the Youth Work Experience Program. Payton plans to attend college and is interested in pursuing a career as a Social Worker. Payton said, "The WIOA program has really helped me with my learning experience. I would have never thought that I would have completed and received my GED. If it wasn't for the amazing support I received from the staff at Job Training Unlimited, I would not have made it this far. The program is awesome, and I am very grateful to be a part of it." - CANDLER COUNTY, 23, DAS North America, Inc. One Stop
CANDLER COUNTY DAS North America, Inc. One Stop Candler County is in the process of welcoming its newest industrial partner, DAS North America, Inc. DAS specializes in the design and manufacturing of seating systems, safety seating components, and seating structures. They are a major supplier for Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and Hyundai Motor Group. Candler County’s close proximity to the new Hyundai Metaplant made Metter a prime location for the new DAS manufacturing facility, thus creating employment opportunities for residents in Metter and its surrounding counties. The facility is located in the Candler County Industrial Authority right off I-16. DAS began their hiring process for the Metter site earlier this year. The WorkSource Heart of Georgia WIOA service provider, Job Training Unlimited, along with other community and industry partners, were proud to organize and host a five-day, multi-county hiring event to assist with the application and interview process. Residents from Candler, Evans, Emanuel, Tattnall, and Toombs counties had the opportunity to meet with the DAS management/HR team who conducted on-site interviews throughout the week. There was a tremendous response and interest in each county, resulting in a total of 713 applications being submitted for employment with DAS during that week alone. We are truly grateful for everyone who played a part in making this a successful week of hiring. The sponsors included: Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission, DAS North America, Candler County Industrial Authority, Georgia Grown Innovation Center, Southeastern Technical College, City of Metter, City of Claxton, City of Reidsville, and Job Training Unlimited. Currently, DAS has hired many of the management staff who will be overseeing operations at the Metter site and will continue to hire more employees through the end of 2024. “The staff of Job Training Unlimited provided DAS of North America with the expertise and resources to help us conduct hiring events in five counties. The week-long hiring event was a huge success. DAS North America appreciates the hard work provided by all staff of Job Training Unlimited.” – Tracy Woods, HR DAS North America. “DAS NA will be opening a plant soon in Metter, GA. - BLECKLEY COUNTY, 23, Dylan Wynter, ITA Program
BLECKLEY COUNTY Dylan Wynter, ITA Program Dylan Wynter was enrolled in the WIOA ITA program in October 2022. He was attending Middle Georgia State University’s Aviation Maintenance Tech Program. He was unemployed and actively looking for work but had been unsuccessful. Dylan needed additional assistance fulfilling the financial burden of continuing with his college career. WIOA helped cover the cost of tuition, books, fees, testing, uniforms, and transportation. Dylan graduated with honors and was a Dean’s List Scholar. After graduation, he passed all the required testing to earn his license as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Dylan has recently accepted a job with Delta, and we are so proud of all his achievements. Dylan had this to say about being in the WIOA Program. “Throughout my studies, WIOA assisted me with the funds to help with tuition, books, and much more during unemployment times. - TATTNALL COUNTY, 23, Ashlyn Waters, Youth Program
TATTNALL COUNTY Ashlyn Waters, Youth Program Ashlyn Waters, of Tattnall County, came to Job Training Unlimited after graduating from high school because she needed assistance to enroll and attend college. After working with her WIOA Case Manager to plan and set objectives that would help her achieve her educational and employment goals, she decided to attend Georgia Southern University with the hopes of earning a degree in Marketing. While in the WIOA program, Ashlyn participated in Youth Work Experience and also completed Occupational Skills Training. When Adult WIOA funding came available, Ashlyn was co-enrolled in the ITA program. Through the ITA program, she received financial assistance with tuition, books, supplies, and transportation. In December 2023, Ashlyn graduated with a 3.4 GPA from Georgia Southern and a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. She has since accepted the position of Marketing Manager at Jincy’s Southern Exchange. We are very proud of Ashlyn and all of her accomplishments.
