    Laurens Superintendent Laurens County Board of Education Full-time Dublin, GA, USA JOB DESCRIPTION The search for the next Superintendent of the Laurens County School System is underway. On Thursday July 17, the Board held their first planning session with representatives of Georgia Leadership Associates, Georgia firm that will assist the Board with the search. The Board approved a tentative timeline for the search that includes a deadline of August 8, 2025 as the last date to accept applications. Georgia Leadership Associates will advertise the vacancy announcement about the search. The search announcement is posted on various internet sites. The Board is also developing a survey to receive input from employees and community members related to the qualities desired in the next superintendent. It is the Board's desire to conduct a thorough search process that involves the community and employees while maintaining the necessary confidentiality of applicants until finalist are selected. In the coming weeks, the Board will also be developing a leadership profile that includes the skills and competencies desired of the next Superintendent. The profile will be important as the Board determines the best candidates to consider the interview for the position. The Board will conduct two rounds of interviews culminating with an anticipated announcement of the new superintendent in October. The need for a search for the new Superintendent was created when Clifford Garnto announced his upcoming retirement that will be effective at the end of December. The position will remain open until filled. Major Duties for the position include Supervise the administration of the affairs of the county and see that all ordinances, resolutions, regulations, and policies of the Board are faithfully executed and enforced. Exercise administrative control over all departments of the county government under under the jurisdiction of the Board. Recommend to the Board of Commissioners the hiring, termination, or suspension of all department heads in accordance with the ordinances, polices, and rules adopted by the Board and all officers and employees of the county under the jurisdiction of the Board; provided, however, the county attorney and the outside auditor shall be appointed and removed solely by the auction of the Board. Act as chief budget officer and submit, subject to requirement established by the Board, an annual budget for consideration and adoption by the Board of Commissioners. Keep the Board fully advised as to the financial condition and needs of the county, Supervise and direct the official conduct of all county officers and department heads appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Attend all meetings of the Board with the right to enter discussion, provided the administrator shall have no vote. Serve as the chief purchasing agent for the county and shall implement policies and procedures adopted by the Board for procurement of all supplies and materials. Supervises the performance of county contracts and negotiates contracts and agreements on behalf of the Board. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Maintains county records and prepares all required reports Represents the county in public and at community events and meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications include Knowledge and/or level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; Master's degree preferred. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits and departments of the county in order to direct and coordinate work within the various subunits and departments, usually interpreted to require three or five years of related experience. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia. Ability to use and understand all office equipment. Good communication skills; both oral and written. Possess good interpersonal skills.     Jailee Hanner, Youth Program MONTGOMERY COUNTY Jailee Hanner, Youth Program Jailee Hanner enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program in February 2022 as an 11th grader at Coastal Plains Charter School. She needed assistance with graduating high school and gaining work experience. During her time in the program, she participated in Basic Skills Training and the Youth Work Experience Program. Her goal was to graduate high school and become a professional dancer. Vidalia Ballet was already an established worksite and was more than happy to have Jailee work there. Jailee received her high school diploma in December 2023 and continues to work and volunteer at the same dance studio. Jailee had this to say about her time in the WIOA program. “I am so thankful for the opportunity to be in the WIOA program. I am from a rural underserved area, and this grant allowed me to gain work experience and obtain skills that will assist me in future endeavors that I otherwise would not have been able to do.” We are so proud of Jailee and the accomplishments that she has achieved.     John Moore Jr., OJT Program DODGE COUNTY John Moore Jr., OJT Program John Moore Jr., from Dodge County, was laid off from Husqvarna in 2019 due to a facility closure. John came to WIOA in need of financial assistance to attend college because he was interested in the Welding Program. With the help of WIOA, John was able to attend Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Despite the difficulties that arose due to the COVID pandemic, John maintained a good GPA and completed the Welding Program in May 2021. After earning his degree from OFTC, John was placed in employment with Dinex Emissions, Inc. through WIOA on-the-Job Training. John completed over 400 hours of training and is now employed full-time at Dinex Emissions, Inc. John was a pleasure to work with and had this to say about WIOA, "The WIOA Program has helped me tremendously. If it were not for the assistance, I would not have been able to complete this program."     Casyn Clements, Youth Program WHEELER COUNTY Casyn Clements, Youth Program Casyn Clements is a 17-year-old In School youth from Wheeler County. Casyn was enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program in February of his junior year in high school. He needed assistance to find employment and graduate high school. His goal was to attend college after graduation. While enrolled in the program, Casyn has participated in the Youth Work Experience Program, which has led to him being employed on his own. He just graduated from Wheeler County High School in May and has been accepted to Southeastern Technical College. He will be attending college for Radiologic Technology this fall. Casyn’s experience, in his own words, “I have learned a lot while working under the program. I have built my people skills.     Katelyn Waters, ITA Program CANDLER COUNTY Katelyn Waters, ITA Program Katelyn Waters enrolled in the WIOA ITA Program in October 2023. She was attending Ogeechee Technical College’s Sonography Program. She had recently lost her job and was having difficulty finding employment. She needed financial assistance to help with the cost of attending school. WIOA was able to help Katelyn by providing help with tuition, books, testing fees, and transportation stipends. She recently graduated with an Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with a 4.0 GPA. She has accepted a full-time position at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. We are very proud of Katelyn and all of her accomplishments. Katelyn had this to say about her time in the WIOA Program. “WIOA has helped me so much in the past year and a half. I am happy to say that I have recently graduated with my associate’s degree. Earning this degree has many challenges, whether mental, physical, or financial. WIOA helped me so much by taking care of the financial aspect of this program. They helped pay for my tuition, scrubs, clinical shoes, books, study materials, registries, and assisted with my travel expenses. Adding up all these expenses can become very overwhelming, textbooks alone cost hundreds of dollars. WIOA has helped me to earn my degree and start my career debt-free.
